Traffic Information Gripes
Oct. 29th, 2008 09:42 amI was supposed to wake up at 5:50 this morning, but instead got raised at 5:30 due to a faint "beep-beep-beep." It took me a while to figure out what could possibly make that sound (neighbor's car alarm? neighbor's fire alarm?) and realize it was the UPS letting me know there was no power.
I found my headlamp and camping lantern, made and ate breakfast, and when the power came back at 5:50 or so took a shower. I was listening to the local NPR station using my shower radio, then the car radio as I started to drive towards work. There were traffic announcements, none relevant.
Once I had arrived at work, found that I had lost a set of keys I needed, and headed back home, around 6:30 or so, the traffic announcement mentioned that there's a power outage in the area I live in, and traffic lights along my commute were out. Needless to mention this was hogwash. They were referring to the outage that had ended an hour before. None of the earlier bulletins, let alone the one during the outage, bothered to mention this.
This is typical of traffic announcements here. I shall make a post if I ever encounter one that is accurate and relevant to me.
