I took a break from studying and such today, and went to buy clothing. I needed decent jeans, and decent something else, as I've shed about one and a half inches of my waist. I ended up with a hip swetshirt with hood, jeans, khakis for work, and pinstripe slacks. I like Target; they may not have what I'm after (no basic T-shirts!), but they often have neat random stuff and are reasonably priced.
I need to swing by Men's Wearhouse one of these years to get a properly tailored new suit. I've come to like dressing up a lot more, and have lately even found situations where I can do some. Even so, there's still so much I don't know, about what works for me, and what works in general, that the concept of shopping for a suit tends to frighten me.
I always dislike going to a store knowing less than the salesperson. Perhaps it's perfectionism, perhaps it's my way of powergaming in life and making sure I have the bigger stick, or perhaps it's just bad experience with salespeople. Be that as it may, there's research one can do from books and pictures, but in the end this is one more thing where nothing beats experience and being there.
Still, having seen
shadow_kat in his suit, it did really hit home that mine is really not tailored for the current me, and does little to make me look good. And, well, I've learned to care about these things. There are reasons to pay attention, rather than to get a polo, khakis, and settle into fashion-apathy.
Everyone who celebrates it, have a good turkey day!
