I spent most of Saturday at MetroCon, a new Anime convention in town. For a first year local convention it was pretty big. The dealers room was okay, both in size and wares though the art show was really, really tiny. The number of attendees was what surprised me most--a pretty good number of people in costumes, enough so that I'd call the place busy! The cosplay show had very few entries, some of which were very good, some of which were okay, and none of which were bad. After the preregistered contestants ad-hoc and ad-lib skits were allowed, and the event turned into an incredible amount of fun. Let it just be said that for a while the judges were doing the chicken dance on stage while the disco lights were going... Worth going. No real panels or guests, and the video screening rooms were way inadequate, once one has gotten spoiled by MegaCon's silver screens and audio systems. Overall, definitely worth the $12 one-day ticket price. Then there's AFO4 in a couple of weeks, DragonCon, NecronomiCon... We'll see how many conventions I can do before I run out of steam!
In case you're curious, pictures, as usual.
