The Island
Jul. 24th, 2005 07:10 pmSaw The Island. I liked it, though it had by far the most obscene amount of product placements I've ever seen. The costume design was nice, the sets were pretty neat in their futuristic character, and the visuals were impressive. Admittedly, a lot of the visual appeal was good use of testosterone-laden boilerplate; the scenes, the lighting tricks and so forth were ones one's used to seeing in the Matrix series, Bruckheimer productions or any of Cameron's movies. Although the plot dabbles somewhat with medical ethics and can raise a few questions if one bothers to think about it, it wasn't particularly deep and certainly wasn't either belieavable or watertight. But even so, the result really appealed to me. And I want to get a set of those rags!
