Fire!

The previous building in which I used to work the fire alarm would go off all the time. Today was the first time it went off in the library, though, and it was pretty interesting. First off, the alarm kicks butt. It's like one of those movie alarms, where the lights blink and a pleasant female voice informs you to exit the building. No horns or sirens or stuff. Secondly, there are a lot of people in the library! Seeing them all mill around the road was pretty impressive.

But still, I'm oddly amused by the female voice calmly (alas, not cheerfully) telling people to proceed to the nearest stairwell. Must've been a boring day :-)

hmmm

oooo, i want to see that in action. the only fire alarms i hear give people headaches. loud ringing and people screaming. the usual school alarm, with the punk kids throwing stuff, the preps screaming, and me stuffing paper in my ears.

I want to hear one with Beavis.

"Heh, heh. FIRE! FIRE! FIRE! Heh, heh, heh."

Or, I want one like on all those Sci-Fi space movies. Maybe like the alert for the shuttle hanger bay on Star Trek.

My office has the buzzer type ones (ERRRT, ERRRT, ERRRT, ERRRT) and a male voice over the intercom saying something like "An emergency has been reported in the building. Please proceed to the stairways and exit the building." or something like that.

When they finally get the Telepods working, we can all get our DNA mixed up on the way out in a mass panic (5 people to a Telepod, plus 1 fly equals BlobuFly). Esoteric sci-fi reference that EVERYONE reading this should know about.
