Dai-Ichi's a MOX reactor, FYI. I've also read that it was scheduled for decommissioning sometime this month, which is pretty much black comedy of the highest order if it's true.
From the last I've read, the explosion was due to an aftershock that rode through while they were venting, which caused a hydrogen combustion, rather than the containment building itself popping.
