Why Twitter is not for Me

I posted a rant about my lack of Twitter use on my geek blog. Feedback is welcome!

I say, use what you like.

With that said, I like Twitter because I am cheap. I dropped my unlimited text messaging since I am required to have unlimited data with my iPhone. So I abuse the Twitter app.

Now, I filter mine very simply: the main page is all the crap people like to tweet; useless or otherwise, but I have people 'direct message' me on Twitter for more important messages.

So far, in my specific case, this works fine.

I do, however, agree that they SHOULD come up with more filters to increase Twitter's functionality.

Frankly I find twitter to be entirely narcissistic, more so than MySpace even.

You need to reach someone, send an e-mail, use AIM, or heaven forbid actually pick up Alexander's invention and input seven or ten digits. Cell phones are just portable versions of the telephone.

Twitter is less useful than the pager of the late 80s and early 90s. Unlike the days of yore, we have a myriad of communication options as you touched upon in your rant, twitter is just a duplication of existing options, probably dumbed down for the general public.
