Tanya Huff: The Enchantment Emporium
Dec. 16th, 2010 09:56 pmI've primarily seen Ms. Huff do urban fantasy and military fiction, and little inbetween. The Enchantment Emporium, if not obvious from the name, is of the former category, and a perfectly passable piece of feel-good fluff.
You have a spunky protagonist who is trying to find her place in the world and strike out from the structure of a large and powerful family, colorful side characters (some of which are quite awesome), the old flame, the new flame, the villain, someone giving mysterious advice, the loyal sidekick... But much like Patricia Briggs and Sharon Shinn, Huff's prose and plot just flows effortlessly in rehashing and re-arranging the old stereotypes and story lines.
3/5.
