I've started to scan in some of my old photos. It's going to be a long while, because there are a lot of them and my cheapo scanner is rather slow. So far the project has proven quite worthwhile however. The first benefit was that it put me in touch with a few people from my past I had neglected. Apparently sending old pictures of people to people is a good conversation starter. I shan't go into the blackmail material I hold.
The second, perhaps more surprising aspect is the number of my friends who have popped up and said they've enjoyed looking at the old pictures. I really expected this to be of interest, well, to myself and possibly a smattering of other people if they appear in pictures, but apparently this is not the case. Knowing that other people are actually peeking in my album makes this immensely more worthwhile an endeavor.
Also, lessons: If you have slides mounted in glass mounts, take them out. Whoever decided that sticky tape in slide mounts was a good idea needs to be quartered. Negative protectors are awesome, time and date stamps are even more awesome. The foresight to actually notate your photos or photo pouches with year, event and people's names -- priceless. (Alas, I have very, very few of those.)
Finally, I apologize for the misspelling of intersession. I took the spelling from the signs in the library -- I trusted authority. Unfortunately the librarians did not prove to be worthy of my trust in this case.
