More tidbits of my life that nobody necessarily cares about.

Bart and Su took me for a birthday dinner to Shiso Sushi on Tuesday, which was very nice, and Vince joined too.

Yesterday I was supposed to go to see Howl's Moving Castle at PI AMC 24 (closest theater to Tampa playing it) with Vince, Mia and maybe Bart and Su and Liana. Turns out none of the Tampa people could make it, so I saw it with Liana, Liz and Emily instead, which certainly made for a much less serious audience. It was good to see Liz again, too.

The movie was quite good--a lot more light hearted than Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke, though it still dealt with some serious stuff. I don't think it quite lived up to Spirited Away in world building and characters, but the story was pretty complex as were the supporting visual elements, and I think it warrants at least one or two more viewings before I start to fully understand all that's going on in it. I might cheat and look up some of the visual symbology, too, especially in regards to the transformation of the protagonist(s). If you go see it, pay attention to the details. It also has the ultimate bishie character in it, who at the same time has that unmistakable Miyazaki signature all over him. The dub is a Disney / Lasseter job, and I certainly had no problems with it whatsoever, despite being a die-hard sub-advocate. The flick also has some pretty dark visuals about war (and Miyazaki's typical take on environmental issues), but it's pretty much gore and violence-free in stark contrast to Princess Mononoke.

Now back to work!
