Weekend

So, here I am, telling the world about my weekend.
It was a very nice once. Camping in Ocala (Juniper Springs) from Friday to Saturday. We took Juniper Run, which consists of plomping a canoe or kayak into the river right off the spring, and then fighting your way seven miles downstream. We were expecting to float leisurely downstream, but that didn't quite turn out to be the case. The current is about two miles an hour. You have to maintain a speed faster than that in order to control the attitude of your vessel. This gets fun when the stream makes a tight 100 degree turn and the fallen trees give you a clearance of about three feet to slip through. Not to complain, actually--it wasn't what we expected, but fun nonetheless. In that macho "fight nature to win" kinda way. The company (Vince and Russ) were neat, despite my wishywashying about going in the first place, the food was good, and overall a great time was had.
Saturday evening I wound my way through Florida some more to hang out with Liana, Emily, Chris, Carlos and Sarah. I didn't get hennaed this time either, but it's only a matter of time. Sunday saw Kevin's game, which went well--Liana's character got both of ours to do something stupid, which added a whole bunch of fun, although I fear I'm not qualified to really play a drug addict. I won't go into how well the party did in the fight part.
I also got to visit Fiddlers Green, a nice Irish pub in Winter Park, with "every beer in the world," in the words of my coworker. Their single malt list was only about a dozen entries long, but every worthwhile kind I know of was on it. The food was slightly overpriced but good, and the atmosphere doesn't disappoint. Recommended, if you're ever in that neck of the woods!
And finally, IBar, which was fun, and busy but not too much so. And features $.50 well drinks before midnight. I have no idea how they hope to stay in business.
Back to work after romping in the forest and Orlando wasn't too bad. There were some serious but non-service-affecting equipment failures over the weekend that others dealt with, and no pile of stuff on the desk. My only consolation with my classes is that many other students have been just as negligent in doing their homework as I have been.
