College food is one of those safe topics for discussion, like weather. Everyone agrees the food sucks. USF's (Tampa campus) food service was run by Sodex'ho-Marriott, like so many others (including my Alma Mater in Finland!), and it was pretty bland. The new contract was awarded to Aramark, and having seen their reputation with the State of Florida prison system, we all decided that maybe Sodex'ho, bad as it was, wasn't the absolute worst company out there.

Alas, we were proven wrong. Aramark has really done a good job. They renovated a bunch, brought more interesting food, take credit cards and overall upscaled the whole operation. And... they sell sushi. And edamame. And rolls. And all that. Admittedly they're more akin to Publix than anything else, but still! So, I'm now happy, sated, belly full of rainbow roll and wallet empty of money.

I'm curious to see how long this lasts. The checkout lady said that sushi is flying off the shelves as fast as they can make it. I hope that's not just a fluke, but that students really will eat healthy and yummy, rather than turn back to burgers and fries. But for now... Mmmmmmmm.
