It was #2 that gave rise to my post (I was reading about DES and AES encryption, and came across it.) Otherwise known as frankenword, which is itself a Portmanteau :-)

(All the geeks may be amused to find out that when the rest of the world discovered differential cryptanalysis in the 90s, it also discovered that IBM and the NSA had known the math of it at least two decades earlier, as the DES S-boxes had been deliberately designed to withstand the technique. Check out the wikipedia entry on DES for more info.)
